Indra de Lanerolle teaches television and mobile media at Wits Journalism. He is also the lead researcher on the South African Network Society Survey, South Africa’s first user survey of internet use. In this interview, he talks about the findings of a survey he carried out with Research ICT Africa in 12 Sub-Saharan African countries: the spectrum of Internet use across the different countries; what Africans are using the Internet for; who the new users of the Internet are; what Africans are using; and the impact of language on internet use.
